League Overview

The HS Select (HSS) league is for players who want a more competitive volleyball experience than House. Players are typically at a level similar to that of JV and Freshman high school players. Active club players and HS Travel (HST) players cannot be on a HSS team. 

Please see our HS Travel league page for more information on that league, which is generally intended for Varsity and JV high school players. 

HSS players must commit to one 90-minute evening practice a week and one 90-minute match on Saturdays.

Tryout Process

HS girls interested in playing on a HS Select team have two options

• Join a Self-Formed Team
  • Gather a group of friends, identify an adult coach, and contact us at mcleanvb@gmail.com to notify us of your self-formed team.
  • Once you hear back from us, each player should register in the HS House league. We will then move your registration to your HSS team.
  • Each player on a self-formed team should not attend HSS tryouts. 
  • Each adult coach must register as a coach and must attend HSS tryouts and the draft to ensure they have a team of 12 players. 

• Attend the HS Select Tryout
  • Register for the HS House league and attend the HSS tryouts on March 10th, 2025, at McLean HS.
  • Based on the number of players that tryout, you may receive an invitation to the HSS callbacks on March 12th, 2025, also at McLean HS (we may not need callbacks depending on the number of players).
  • Coaches will use the HSS draft on March 13th to assign players to teams. You will be notified by March 14th if you are drafted onto a HSS team.

If you are not drafted onto a HSS team, you will still have the option of playing in the HS House league.

All HSS teams must have 12 players, regardless of whether the team starts as a self-formed team or is created entirely via the draft process.

League Format

1. HSS matches follow standard volleyball rules.
2. Everyone on the roster will receive matching MYA Volleyball uniforms for matches.
3. Teams must have a minimum of 5 players at a match. We expect this not to be an issue given the requirement for 12 players on a team, as forfeits are a worst case outcome for any match.
