League Overview

The HS Travel (HST) league is for players with either significant club and/or Varsity or JV experience who are looking for a competitive volleyball league with a much smaller commitment than a club program. Strong HS freshman players may be a fit for the HST league as well. Active club players cannot be on an HST team (note that active club players are always welcome to coach McLean Youth Volleyball teams and also serve as referees).

HST players must commit to one 90-minute evening practice a week and one 90-minute match on Saturdays. We plan to start HST practices the week of March 10th, assuming we have gym space at McLean HS. Otherwise, practices will start the week of March 17th.

The term “Travel” originates from when MYV only had one or two travel teams that would in fact travel to play against other area teams. The HST league is now able to have a sufficient number of teams to not require any travel - i.e. all matches will be played in the McLean area. The term “Travel” is merely used to distinguish the league from the HS “Select” league. 

Tryout Process

For spring 2025, we will be creating each HST team via a tryout and draft process to help with competitive balance across the HST league.

High school girls interested in joining an HST team must follow this process:

1. Register for the HS House league. After being selected for a HST team, we will move your registration to the correct HST team.
2. Attend the HST tryouts on March 3rd, 2025 at McLean HS.
3. Depending on the number of players that tryout, we may require a callback session on March 5th, 2025 at McLean HS. You will be notified if this occurs. 
4. You will be notified if you are selected to an HST team by March 7th.

If you attend HST tryouts and are not selected to callbacks, you will still have the option of attending HS Select (HSS) tryouts the following week and joining a HSS team. 

If you are invited to HST callbacks but are not selected to a team, and you wish to try out for HSS, you will be able to skip the HSS tryouts and will be invited directly to the HSS callbacks. 

All HST teams will have 12 players.

League Details

1. HST matches follow standard volleyball rules.
2. Everyone on the roster will receive matching MYA Volleyball uniforms for matches.
3. Teams must have a minimum of 5 players at a match. We expect this not to be an issue given the requirement for 12 players on a team, as forfeits are a worst case outcome for any match.
